Principal Investigator

Adam S. Sperling, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Medicine (Hematology)
Adam received his medical degree and PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2011, where he worked on mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation in the lab of Dr. Michael Grunstein. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Benjamin Ebert and is now an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of disease evolution from pre-malignant conditions and the development of drug resistance in multiple myeloma and other hematologic malignancies. In the clinic he cares for patients with multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathies and clonal hematopoiesis.
Current Lab Members

Emily Gallen
Postdoctoral Researcher
Emily is currently in her thesis pending year of the British Heart Foundation PhD Programme in Cardiovascular Science at University of Glasgow. She joined the Sperling Lab in May 2024 as a pre-doctoral fellow. Here, she will investigate the role of RUNX1 in therapy-related myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia.

Rajiv Sharma, PhD
Senior Research Scientist
Rajiv received his B.A. in Cell and Molecular Biology with an emphasis in Immunology from the University of California, Berkeley, then earned a Ph.D. in Gene Therapy & Vaccines at the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Dr. Kathy High at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. For his dissertation research, he focused on in vivo genome editing for Hemophilia and other monogenic disorders. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Ravindra Majeti at Stanford University, where he used CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to investigate the clonal evolution of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He is interested in novel applications of molecular techniques to advance the understanding and treatment of disease.
